One of America’s most time-honored traditions is the late-night talk show, which was first popularized in the early 1960s with the airing of The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. Nowadays, late-night TV viewing options have diversified significantly, with a variety of networks airing programs from which viewers can choose based upon their individual tastes and bedtimes!
Long beloved host David Letterman continues to grace the late-night TV screen in his CBS-sponsored program The Late Show With David Letterman, which airs every weeknight at 10:35c (Central time). Conan O’Brien‘s TBS program Conan—packed with celebrity interviews and ample comedy—likewise airs on weeknights, beginning at 10:00c.
Meanwhile, NBC’s late-night programming will be undergoing a number of exciting changes in the near future! Longtime host Jay Leno is retiring from his twenty-two year stint on The Tonight Show, and although he will be missed, there’s no need to worry—comedian and seasoned talk-show host Jimmy Fallon will step in to fill his shoes in the early months of 2014. Seth Meyers, the former head writer for the network’s long-running show Saturday Night Live (which, if you can believe it, is now in its thirty-eighth season!) will in turn take over Fallon’s position on Late Night.
Speaking of comedy, the ever-hilarious Jimmy Kimmel is still going strong as the host of ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live!, which airs at 10:35c. The Late Late Show, hosted by Craig Ferguson, is perfect for laughter-seeking night owls, with a start time of 11:35c. And who can forget Comedy Central, which features the riveting political satire to be found on both The Daily Show With Jon Stewart and The Colbert Report, which air back-to-back Monday through Thursday at 10:00 and 10:30, respectively?
On weeknights at 10:00c, E! airs Chelsea Lately, which features one of America’s most successful female late-night hosts: Chelsea Handler, an accomplished comedian who is no stranger to the world of laughter. The world-famous Graham Norton Show, a BCC production, offers yet another hilarious take on celebrity culture (both within and outside of the United States), and with a start time of 11:35c is another great viewing option for those who like to stay up late.
Does gaining access to a wide selection of late-night viewing options seem like an impossible dream?
